Fall Trend: Bright Sweaters

Posted: Nov 15 2013

As sure as the leaves are brown and the Starbucks cups red, the arrival of fall means one thing for our wardrobes: a never-ending supply of sweaters. The closet staple is perfect for beating the chill both comfortably and stylishly — always a good combination!

But you already knew that, right? Well how about taking the humble sweater to the next level then? Read on for tips on breaking away from the standard sweater-jeans-boots combo and trying something a bit more creative.

White Hot

Buyer and street style star Tiffany Hsu dashed to shows during Paris Fashion Week wearing a sweater, leather jacket, jeans, and heels all in crisp white. We love the idea of a head-to-toe blanc outfit, as it’s undeniably fresh (and so clean clean). Pick up Line & Dot’s Angora Sweater, below, and team it with all-white pieces to achieve a similarly chic look. (Don’t forget to add in a pop of color and chunky jewelry.)

Feeling Blue

At the more saturated end of the color spectrum, we have Tuula Vintage blogger Jessica Stein’s self-proclaimed “50 shades of blue” ensemble. She went for cobalt, turquoise, and light blue all in the same outfit — and it totally works. Playing with different hues in the same color family is a fun and easy way to liven up a dull wardrobe. Just be sure to emulate Stein and throw in some neutral pieces to temper all that color.

Inspired by Stein, we’d layer a white button-up underneath Yoon’s Pointelle Pullover, below, and then add tailored trousers in an understated sky blue hue. Schutz’s colorblocked Ima Heels would bring in two more shades of blue, packing quite the punch. We’d finish the outfit with a neutral coat to allow our cerulean shades to stand out.
